Jamie Gomez wins School of Engineering Junior Faculty Teaching Award

photo of jamie gomezOn May 3rd, 2018 Dr. Jamie Gomez was honored with the School of Engineering Junior Faculty Teaching Award for outstanding teaching and classroom innovation. Dr. Gomez was recognized for her effective teaching style and pedagogical approaches. One chemical engineering student remarked, “Professor Gomez is very passionate about getting her students to become the best chemical engineers they could be. She is always very patient with her students and ready to provide them with guidance whether it is a problem that needs to be solved, a morale boost, or to figure out what to do after graduation… What I find truly unique about Professor Gomez is that deep down she really cares about her students and who they become.” Jamie has won numerous awards for her published work. Her poster “Jigsaws & Parleys: Collaborative Learning Tools for Enhancing Student Engagement” won a best poster award at the 2017 ASEE Summer School. On September 27th, 2018, her paper written with Vanessa Svihla "Rurality as an Asset for Inclusive Teaching in Chemical Engineering" won the Christine A. Stanley Award for Diversity and Inclusion Research in Educational Development award from the Professional and Organizational Development Network.
